Hidden Art Friday

Do you have big plans for the holiday weekend? We’re staying close to home and relaxing in the perfect backyard weather. A trip to the farmers market, mud pie making for the kids, and naps for everyone is in order on Saturday. We are also preparing for a visit from Emily and her family. I’m resolved to scrape the food off the wood floors underneath my children’s chairs in the dining room before they pull into our driveway!

If things go just right, I will finally break out the new sewing machine I received for my birthday in April. I have a valance to whip-up, plus a pile of miscellaneous mending. When I saw this post about hand sewing with kids, I had to pin it. Hand sewing seems like the perfect starting place for my five-year-old daughter who is desperate to learn to sew.

Every now and then, I think wistfully of the weekends before babies turned them into working days. However, Sally Clarkson’s post this week about how the sacrifice it takes to minister to our children day in and day out is what gives us admission to their hearts was the perfect antidote.

How many of you are still freaking out about Google Reader vanishing on June 1? I was until a friend convinced me to try Feedly. Signing up took 30 seconds. It promptly imported all of my blogs from Reader. Plus, I could organize all my blogs into tidy folders. Reader, schmeeder! Where have you been all my life Feedly?!?

I love the line about scraping the food off the wood floors before your friends arrive. Sounds just like my house.
