We’ve had a bit of a heat wave here in SoCal this week–days in the 80s–so I’ve been trying to avoid turning on the oven. (I know, I know–most of you who live elsewhere aren’t having to worry about overheating your kitchens right now!) At times like these (and during summer for everyone else), the crock pot is my friend. I didn’t really take advantage of slow cooking until I got the Hamilton Beach programmable model with a temperature probe that helps me avoid overcooking my food. Now I love crockpot meals, especially when we’re out in the late afternoon, right up until dinner time. This week we’ve made Crock Pot Chicken W/ Black Beans and Cream Cheese and homemade chicken broth, and we’re becoming big fans of these Slow Cooker Rosemary Pull Apart Rolls. Whatever the weather, I use our crockpot weekly to make fresh yogurt. Blog recipes for crockpot yogurt abound, but I rely on this one because she uses temperatures rather than times (which can vary widely, depending on your appliance).
