Hidden Art Friday

Happy Friday, everybody! We are getting settled into our summer routine, but before I start summer posts, I wanted to show you a project the kids and I worked on just before we left NJ. We transformed a lonely, dirty nook in the basement into a fully equipped kitchen for the girls! Before: Kid Kitchen 1

Kid Kitchen 2 photo (40) This was such a fun, quick little project. I repurposed everything. The only items I bought were the pegboard, which I painted with old paint, and the light fixture. Everything else was scrounged up from different parts of the house or storage. The brick ‘wall’ on one side is actually our chimney extending into the basement, so in the winter, this little room will even be warm! Plus, it adds such a fun Brooklyn loft feel to the room. My older son was my biggest helper, moving boxes, scrubbing the walls and floor, and helping me move in furniture and organize the pegboard. It was so much fun to work on it with him, and then have him lead the girls down to show them the surprise. They were thrilled, and I’m hoping to get a ton of mileage out of our renovation during the dreary winter months.

What projects do you have lined up this summer?

This is fabulous! Amanda told me recently that when she was young she imagined her dream house with two staircases so there would be twice as many spots for under the stairs play.
